How do you start a fun conversation?

So there are moments when the conversation can get awkward when meeting someone new. So my question is how to avoid the awkwardness and start a fun conversation or change the direction of the conversation to make it less awkward? Make sense?

I'll just approach you and thank you for being good looking.   Then we'll have no problem taking the conversation to the next level since I'm staring at perfection who works in a pleasure palace that I'm lucky enough to be at.

I just embrace the awkwardness, and usually end up saying something silly, which I find tends to relax the gentleman that I'm talking too. I've heard from shy guys that pretty women can intimidate them, so I just like to be myself and be silly and put the stress at ease.

I'd say I also ask a lot of questions and try to find common interests and experiences we share to expand upon.
