Hey everyone,
A friend and I were watching TV the other day and someone referred to a brothel as a "whorehouse."
We were a little surprised, for two reasons - how outdated the term was and the fact that it adds a note of disrespect in describing the workers of the world's second oldest profession.
I'm thinking there are many better descriptors - brothel or bordello, of course, cathouse, bawdy house - and my favorite from Paris, describing French military brothels, in existence as recently as the 1990s, as " la boîte à bonbons" - its literal translation: box of candy.
Anyway, I'm sure you all agree that this is a highly respectable profession - we're all like-minded folk on here - what is your favorite, respectable term for a place like The Mustang Ranch?
I generally just call them ranches. Sometimes i use brothel.
I agree!!! Usually when someone uses "whorehouse" there's a tone of disrespect...I prefer brothel. 😘
Brothels or ranches
Still, I have to chuckle when I think of T-shirt I saw being worn at an airshow that read: Don't Tell Mom I'm Pilot, She Thinks I Play Piano In A Whorehouse"
Thank You For setting the record straight. We truly appreciate it ;)
Props to pearl pleaser "claps" we appreciate the way you think!!
I'm 100% in agreement with this - we have Victorian "morality" to blame for the current attitudes to prostitution. Even after 150 years or so, we are just starting to once again realize that there's nothing actually wrong with it.
That said, I would only use the term Brothel, even to me it's a little disrespectful to refer to The Mustang Ranch as a "cathouse".
Likewise, my preferred term for the Ladies is to call them Courtesans, again that's a measure of the respect that I have for the Ladies that work at The Mustang Ranch.
Well put Johann
"Even after 150 years or so, we are just starting to once again realize that there's nothing actually wrong with it." I'm not sure people are "starting to once again realize it." Honestly, I was shocked after the Lamar Odom fiasco at a southern Nevada brothel that there wasn't more talk of making it completely illegal in Nevada.
Unfortunately, there is at least 50% of the population that it will be hard to ever convince in significant amounts that this business is safe and reputable.
I think my opinion on this is pretty well known. I absolutely hate the word whore. It is degrading to womenl.
We are not whores and we don't work in a whorehouse! We are human beings and should be treated with dignity and respect. We are women that work in a brothel. We are fearless.
I am proud to work there, I am proud of the other girls that work with me. So I'll be damned if anyone is going to call us whores or say we work in a whore house.
There was once a lady at (the then) Wild Horse named Scarlett, aka Scarlett Red. She once appeared in some adult films, and a fan penned this little ditty: Scarlett the Harlot, the Red-Headed Babe, Scarlett the Starlet We Love to Adore. Opinion seemed equally divided as to whether or not this was insulted or amusing. ;)

Personally I wouldn't find it funny but if it was 5 or 10 years ago it was used a lot but opinions on the term whore have changed considerably in the last few years. I have fought this battle on the other board and posted about it on my site.

My whole take on guys who talk to or about girls that way is its just they have that kind of attitude toward women in general. If a guy is ok with calling a woman a whore it's not gonna matter if she works in a brothel or a church. That's just his general attitude toward women. You either respect women or you don't.
But I don't think any ladies should ever even bother to give that a second thought. If a dude is willing to talk about a girl like that it says a lot about him and nothing really about her.
A lot of life is about perspective. People see things how they want to see them... People either have a good positive attitude about things or they don't.
I agree with the sentiment expressed here. The term "whore" does not give the ladies the respect they deserve.
I actually like to think of the ranch as an adult spa, with the ladies being sex therapists that are particularly well qualified to help me with my sexual inadequacies!

I like to think of it as a resort. Get away, relax, and get laid.
Obviously, a term that can offend one person - many others use all the time. For example, I have a co-worker that constantly uses the term retard or retarded to describe some work that is messed up or even some mistake she might make. She doesn't call other people by the name as an insult and I don't think she really means any malice by using it. She'll say something like "I'm so retarded." The term just bugs the hell out of me and I cringe every time I hear say it. Made sitting next to her for a couple years a bit painful Especially in a workplace - the term just seems totally inappropriate to me.
While I do have a distant relative that is quite disabled in this manner - that really isn't my mindset. It just seems like anyone in this huge office could have a close friend or relative with that type of issue and the term shouldn't be used.
Name calling isn't cool by anyone if you ask me. I'm sure I do it on rare occasions too - but try not to as best I can.
I just want to apologize if I have offended anyone by using this word. As I'm pretty sure you've all seen me use it.
Not trying to excuse if I've offended anyone, but the reason I use it to describe MYSElF, is because I just honestly have no bones about what I do, and don't feel bad about it one bit, I love adult work, and if someone was to try to tell me I'm bad for what I do I just would laugh at them.
To be honest, it had always been a huge turn on to me personally in the bedroom when guys use the word whore. I love it. So I didn't really think ab it being bad, when I came out to Nevada.
Before I came out here I didn't know anything about legal brothels, cuz I got recruited when I first came, and I just watched a little video online on YouTube and it was people talking about how they didn't care what word was used to describe us, and so when I came here I just adopted use of one of my favorite words guys use in the bedroom with me.
Anyway that's my explanation, but after reading some of you ladies posts and your websites and on the board I feel like Ive probably really offended you, which I never meant to do because I was self describing using it because it just turns me on.... Anyway I'm definitely going to try to steer away from using it frequently just out of respect for my fellow ladies who I really hold in the highest regard.
My sincere apologies ladies if I've made you cringe....
Helga, don't worry you haven't offended anyone. Everything's good.
